Cork County Council is constructing a Greenway on the disused railway corridor between Midleton and Youghal. The 23km long Greenway will be an off-road walking and cycling route through the heart of East Cork which will connect the towns and villages of Midleton, Mogeely, Killeagh and Youghal.
IE Consulting prepared the surface water drainage design for 7.5km of the proposed greenway route along the disused railway tracked that are in areas of cut or prone to flooding from springs, surface water runoff and nearby watercourses. The design philosophy included the use of existing drainage channels where possible as well as the design of filter drains, swales, attenuation ponds, interceptor drains, drainage blankets and carrier drains along the greenway route. This included the preparation of construction stage plans, long sections and standard details as well as a design summary report.
